Windows Server 2016 Health Monitoring – ignore/delete alert issue

Introduction

The health monitoring feature of Windows Server 2016 Essentials is a feature designed to target the customers who do not have IT Support personnel, however this primary feature has an issue that prevents the management of alerts displayed in the Health Monitor Dashboard.

Symptons

Windows Server 2016 Essentials - Health Dashboard

Windows Server 2016 Essentials – Health Dashboard

When you choose to ignore or delete an alert you get a dialog box that never finishes to process the request.

Dialog does not finish action

Solution

Microsoft have not resolved this issue. 13 August 2018

Workaround

The only workaround that we have found is to open Services and restart “Windows Server Essentials Health Service” while you still have the dashboard open, immediately requesting to delete or ignore the alert once restarted. If you have more than one alert to manage then you will have to restart the service for each alert.

It’s two years since the release of Windows Server 2016 and it appears that Microsoft does not consider customer feedback on this key feature is not worth resolving.
